• Poetry Month: Poptropica Poems

To celebrate Poetry Month, April, Icy Hammer and I decided to add to the Poptropica community by sharing a few poems about Poptropica

Let’s get started with some Haikus by Icy Hammer reflecting Poptropica’s current state:

    1. Oh Poptropica,

    Was once my favorite game

    Now on Cool Math Games

    2. Real Mocktropica

    Bad management took over

    OG Pop is gone

    3. Many islands lost

The end of Flash brought much doom,

    Mourn Poptropica.

Next, we have an acrostic poem by Sporty Runner, representing Poptropica in it’s supreme days:

    Pleasure to play

Original and unique (in a good way)

    Popular

    Thrilling

    Rad

    Outstanding story

    Plentiful

    Islands

    Challenging (yet fun)

    Adventure

That’s it for now, tune in for more poems throughout the month.

  • What is Poptropica?

Poptropica is an online world created by Jeff Kinney and Pearson Education in 2007. Right now, it is on CoolMath Games (see more). The game is made up of “islands,” which are different quests to complete. There were once over fifty islands, but now there are only twelve, some of which were incomplete1. The reason for the sudden disappearance of so many islands was the retirement of Adobe Flash, which Poptropica used to operate. Now, Poptropica runs on Haxe JavaScript, but the transition from Flash to Haxe is challenging, so it takes long for content to be transferred (although no content will be transferred anymore).

1: Some islands are episodic (in multiple parts), and never had all episodes re-released.

  • CoolMath Games and Poptropica

Once upon a time, Poptropica was its very own game. However, after a shutdown hoax in December of 2023, it was clear that the Poptropica Creators could not keep up the site on its own. Thankfully, CoolMath Games saved the game and the web hosting was switched from Poptropica.com to CoolMath Games. This also means that no new Poptropica content will be released, so it is immortalized in the way it was when last updated.

  • The Shutdown Hoax

On December of 2023, there was an announcement made from a Discord account once believed to belong to Poptropica.

This announcement stated that Poptropica would shut down on December 31, 2023 (This message has now been debunked). It put all Poptropicans into a scare, but thankfully the Poptropica Creators reached out on their Twitter/X and Instagram accounts to say it wasn’t true. Still, it seemed so real and it seemed like Poptropica would cease to be.

Although Poptropica wasn’t shut down, it won’t be updated either, so it is a mix of both: dead and alive.

  • Behold! The Poptropica Press

I know Poptropica has been lacking popularity these days. Chances are, you’ve only seen it on Cool-Math Games, but you don’t know a thing about it. That, or you quit Poptropica after the lack of updates and actual content these days, post-Flash (I’ll get to that eventually). However, despite all of that, I once had a dream to make this site, and I must keep the Poptropica fandom going, however small.

Now, a bit about me and this site.

My Poptropica name is Sporty Runner. I have played Poptropica since before I went to school, yet unfortunately that means my memories playing Old Pop are very dim, sadly. Poptropica was my coping mechanism during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I am a proud Poptropican to this day (despite the annoying fact that there is little new content these days and all I can do it redo islands).

Why did I make this site?

I was inspired to make this site by another site called the Poptropica Help Blog. This site has plenty of news, guides, and more to help any Poptropican in need. I loved how they would do that, and I wanted to do the same, with more too: crosswords, stories, comics, guides, news, etc. Now, that dream is not the same, but I still would do anything for Poptropica. I probably won’t accomplish all that I hoped, but I will blog from time to time. Although the news dream is pretty useless, I can still try to add to the fandom, give Poptropica an extra purpose.

Now I shall leave you. You won’t hear much from me, but just know that if you love Poptropica, don’t abandon it. Despite its lack of life, Poptropica still has a fandom that needs to be remembered.

    Long Live Poptropica!
